Emperor Meiji passed away in 1912 (Meiji 45) and Empress Shoken passed away in 1914 (Taisho 3), but the people expressed their desire to honor the divine spirit and respect and worship her divine virtues forever. A place with deep ties to the sanctified god, as a result of passionate desires.

Since then, Meiji Shrine has been used to pray for the prosperity of the imperial family, the prosperity of our country, and world peace.
A visit to the temple on New Year's Eve usually attracts the most worshipers in Japan, but in normal times the lush, vast forest and majestic aura quietly envelop people's prayers. Festivals and events are held throughout the year, and various blessing and dedication ceremonies are held in the region during spring and autumn festivals.
